Thoughts on Giving (Guest Blog)

Thoughts on Giving, by Matt Wheeler

I am excited about giving.  Don’t get me wrong, I can be as tight-fisted as anyone and have a long way to go, but this is one area that God has really blessed my family and me.  My wife Kristy and I were blessed to be trained by Gary Montgomery and others on living with a Biblical view of possessions and have participated in and lead a couple of small groups on this topic.  Did you know that there are over 2,300 verses on money and possessions?  The Bible talks about bribes, borrowing, financial planning, and even whether or not you should co-sign for someone.  Jesus spoke extensively about these topics–even more than he spoke about love.  But I believe that the overarching theme is that everything that we have is really God’s and that we can either grow closer to God or drift farther away in the way that we deal with our finances.  Here are two things that I would like for you to join me in if you can.

1) Gary Montgomery, with Compass–Finances God’s Way, will be speaking at our July Simple Church Training.

Wednesday, July 10
6PM, Simple Church Office
3060 Harrodsburg Road (in the First Southern Building)

Gary has helped us and hundreds of others in Central Kentucky grow closer to God by helping us view our possessions through God’s Word.  I believe it will really be beneficial if you can make it.  More Information HERE.

2) If you aren’t already supporting Simple Church Alliance financially, you may want to begin.  If the ministry of planting Simple Churches has touched your life, would you consider supporting the church planting on a monthly basis?  I’ve shared in the past some of the reasons that we love to give to Simple Church, but most of all, we know that God put us on this earth for a short time to help people to know and follow Jesus and this is a great eternal investment for us.

Here are the ways you can give.
