Summer Updates (in Photos)

Summer Updates

It’s hard to believe that we are about to turn the page on yet another summer!  I wanted to take a few seconds and share some byte-sized updates from simple church happenings.  Thank you for having covered many of these opportunities with prayer.

Hollyhill Dr. simple church met at Hill-n-Dale Park last week.

University of Kentucky Simple Church Training

Students gathered from the University of Kentucky to hear about simple church planting on campus.

Luke Long shares the history and fluidity of the UK simple church over the past four years.

Luke challenged the students to consider some great questions at the end…questions good for us all to consider!

Zumé Project – Kentucky

Zume Region Map
The Zume Project is an ambitious nationwide effort to multiply disciples and simple churches in every census tract (approx 5000 people) in the US. This summer, I have prayed regularly with leaders from around the country and have signed-on to oversee this project in Kentucky.  A self-guided website to help train and connect people relationally is launching this fall. I will be in Tampa for a conference this month with leaders from around the US. I look forward to meeting many of these people in person that I have prayed with for several months now on the phone.  Please pray that leaders are identified in every region of the state!  You can click on image to learn more.

Summer Celebration Gathering

A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those who made it out to our summer celebration which was held by the fireplace (instead of “by the creek!”).

Thank you, Gideon and Hannah, for sharing your gifts with us!

We’re grateful for the Wheelers for allowing everyone to enjoy their farm again this summer!

Water Blast Camp

I recently had the opportunity to serve as a chaplain for a camp called “Water Blast” hosted by the folks in Florence who feed us every year at skate camp. I was able to take Guy with me and we saw over 30 kids make public commitments to begin a relationship with Christ. Please keep them in your prayers as they will be encouraged to take part in baptism in the coming days.

Awaken Conference in Paintsville, KY

Many of you know that I have mc’d and performed my goofy rap songs at the Awaken festival in Eastern Kentucky for about the past 10 years or so. This year was another great time!  Dana and Diego, from our simple church, were able to go along with Guy and Emma. Dana even stepped-up the game by singing with me on a couple of rap songs including a new one we recently recorded about simple church.  I was also able to lead a workshop on simple church planting principles and I was invited to speak about discipleship at a local church after the conference. I’m very grateful for the opportunity we had to be a part of this weekend again and for the 20+ people that made decisions to receive Christ.

Regional Gathering with Gospel Fellowships

We hosted a regional gathering this summer with friends from BigLife Ministries and Gospel Fellowships. It was great to walk through simple and reproducible ways of  disciplemaking and church planting with several new families from Kentucky and surrounding states.

Simple Church Conference Coming Up!

This fall we will host our 5th Annual Simple Church Conference! This year’s conference will focus on the importance of prayer in disciple making and simple church multiplication. All the details and registration are available today at

Golf Church

This summer, Tim Philpot and Even Mossberger as well as several others have hosted a version of "simple church" we have been calling Golf Church. Each week features a testimony and prayer and last week my good friend and EKU golf coach Pat Stephens and his son Joseph were our special guests.
This summer, Tim Philpot and Evan Mossberger, as well as several others, have hosted a version of “simple church” we have called Golf Church at Keen Trace Country Club. Each Sunday morning features a testimony from a guest and prayer. Last week my good friend and EKU golf coach Pat Stephens and his son Joseph were our special guests.

This is my new friend Dan Klebes who is moving to Central Kentucky from New York. He is a Desert Storm Vet and Pastor who hopes to be involved in skate ministry in Kentucky. I have enjoyed spending time with him recently after he found us via our website. Please keep him in your prayers as he relocates and begins his job search here.

What is going on in your neck of the woods?  We would love to hear about what God is doing in your life and in your simple church!  How can we pray for you?  Any news to pass along?  Let us continue to mutually encourage one another…even via this website!  If you have interest in posting an update or sharing info with me to pass along, I would love to hear from you!
