Why Do You Gather With Your Simple Church Family?

Why do you gather with your simple church family?

I think this question is very important for all believers—especially those of us in simple church—to consider.  How we answer this question reveals our motives and sets our expectations when gathering with our brothers and sisters.

Do you come together to be fed?
Do you come together to receive?
Do you come together so you can be heard?
Do you come together so you can check your box?
Do you come together to put others in their place?
Do you come together to air your complaints?
Do you come together to be entertained?
Do you come together so others will know you are a believer?
Do you come together so you won’t have to “come together” with/at ______ ?

I was speaking with a couple of other simple church leaders about this today and I had the thoughtWhat if we came together to 1) Meet with Jesus and 2) build up/mutually encourage our brothers and sisters?  I have to believe that if every person in a church family sincerely came together for these reasons, a lot of our issues with each other and with “simple church” would fade into the background.  I believe we would leave blessed and excited to see each other again–perhaps even before next Sunday!

[box] Hebrews 10: 23-25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”[/box]
