* We recently hosted author Wayne Jacobsen and his wife Sara for a day retreat/conversation. I was blown away by the response with almost fifty folks joining us in Lexington from as far away as Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee! I also was grateful that so many families in the region discovered us and connected with other believers. We continue to witness a growing hunger for people to “find church” outside the box! If you are not familiar with Wayne, he helped contribute to the book The Shack; however, I highly encourage checking out the books Finding Church, He Loves Me, and So You Don’t Want To Go To Church Anymore? If you happen to pick up a copy and read it, let me know! I’d love to discuss with you!
Wayne and Sara also were incredibly transparent in sharing God’s work in their lives and marriage over the past two years as Sara has had to confront abuse she suffered as a child. They share this story in great detail on “The God Journey” podcast. You can find all related podcasts to this story under “Redeeming Love” at this link.
* Our simple church family recently gathered with the staff at Adventure Serve Ministries in Wilmore (Brice and Becca are a part of our fellowship but also lead this ministry). Neva and Blake enjoyed their big swing together. We are praying that all the kids that come to camp will come to know and experience the love of Jesus this summer.
* Oct 19-20 Simple Church Retreat 2024! Registration and Details here.
* I keep sharing a great talk that has inspired me recently…”The Power of a Quiet Life” click here:
* This group of men are some of the most important people in my life. While we try to get together weekly for many years now, we were all able to make recently and I snapped this pic. I’m so grateful to grow in Christ alongside these guys.
* Currently reading (at a turtle’s pace) The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis… Wow!
* Favorite Song right now: Rock My Soul, Josh Garrels
* I had a great time attending the A Call To Action conference in Florida recently with leaders from Action Sports Ministries and skate church communities across the world. I have been holding on to the reminder that God is “limitless.” What a gift to visit with Josh and Katherine Roberts and their children who will be moving back to the area to serve skaters in Kentucky!
* This coming Friday is National Go Skateboarding Day. The Skate Church community will be hosting a pancake breakfast from 9AM-11AM at Berry Hill Skatepark in Lexington. We haven’t done this before so we are praying for great opportunities to serve and share Christ’s love! Follow Lexington Skate Church on Facebook and Instagram for summer gathering opportunities.
* FCA Leadership Camp is around the corner. Not only will I have three kids as campers (Neva’s first year), but I’ll be leading some workshops and speaking to all the campers about the annual “faith building trip” and prayer walk. We will send all 500 campers into the community to pray for families and those they meet.
* Lastly I am planning to help others host a simple church introduction breakfast in Alabama and also locally (Berea). If you are interested in hosting an introduction breakfast, contact me and I can give you more details. It’s pretty straight forward. Together we can create an opportunity for folks to learn about just how simple “church” can be.
Karla and I continue to be grateful to serve in this capacity. We sense a growing hunger for more. We continue to trust God for his provision and are so grateful for those of you who choose to support us through this ministry. The Destination is the Journey,
