Simple Church Opportunity: Apartment Complexes

I “tweeted” out the link below earlier, but I wanted to expand on the idea that this organization/ministry has embraced… When I was in college, it was not uncommon for leaders of Campus Crusade and other ministries to obtain RA jobs in the dorms.   Students could easily build relationships with students and share Christ with them.  The university enjoyed having dependable RAs who cared for the residents.  It was a natural fit.  Similarly, Apartment Living, a ministry based out of Texas, seeks to capitalize on both the need for apartment residents in the US to experience a loving community  and the need for landlords to retain residents.  In doing so, they highlight an an incredible opportunity for simple church planting. As I consider how God might bring about a simple church movement through our… Read More »Simple Church Opportunity: Apartment Complexes

Movement to Monument

This is the video we watched during our Sunday morning network gathering.  Neil raises many of the issues we have addressed over the last 6 months in a clear and concise manor.  I would encourage every simple church to take time to watch and discuss the points addressed in this video.  I have typed out the 10 steps for going from a “movement to a monument” that are identified in the video as they were a little hard to read on the slides.  They are as follows: 1.  From Biblical Priorities to Non-Biblical Priorities – valuing methods and traditions sacred as scripture 2. From Leadership to Management – the people expect to be managed and those that led now simply manage the people they have. 3. From Volunteers to Employees – increased staff creates pressure… Read More »Movement to Monument

What is Simple Church?

This would be a great place to start if you have come to this blog in an attempt to figure out what in the world is going on at First Alliance with regards to the formation of a “simple church network.”

Preview Luncheons – Dec. 5th & Jan. 9th

Hello friends! I hope this finds you well!  I continue to hear from many who were unable to come to the “Vision for Being The Church” class and have a desire to know more about what we are doing.  Indeed there are many families here at First Alliance Church (FAC) who are unaware of exactly what we are doing and why we are doing it. Therefore, I have reserved the new Founders Dinning Room at FAC for December 5th and January 9th to have a church plant preview luncheon.  The lunch will immediately follow the second service (12pm) and FAC will provide the food .  This will be and excellent opportunity for you to introduce a friend, neighbor, or even FAC member to the  “simple church network” vision. Up until this point, we have primarily… Read More »Preview Luncheons – Dec. 5th & Jan. 9th

Where to Begin?

Do you every look at an enormous building or structure and wonder what the person in charge thought about his or her first day on the job?  I often imagine a funny scenario where the person walks onto the bare job site, takes out his or her tape measure, takes a measurement, and immediately tells someone to, “start digging here!”  Of course the reality is that it’s months and sometimes years before digging begins (I was a civil engineer major for one semester after all!)  Construction begins only after the end result has been planned. As I begin the task of “planting a church,” I’ve been thinking a lot about the end.  While the construction of a church would seemingly be the goal, I’ve concluded that God is not calling me to build a church… Read More »Where to Begin?
