Zumé Project Preview

UPDATE: Join Gavin and Forrest Head, with BigLife@Home for a Google Hangout on Wednesday June 1st at 8PM to learn more about the Zumé Project and pray for our nation.  Details HERE.  Over the last several months people from around the country have been coming together from various denominations and even types of churches to pray for and consider the common purpose of multiplying disciples, and yes, simple churches across the nation under the banner of the Zumé Project.  The Zumé Project (see video below) is an approach to fulfilling the Great Commission in North America by helping to establish disciple making groups or simple churches in every census tract (geographic block of 10,000 people) in the country.  The Zumé Project, when launched in August, will offer an online tool that will allow anyone to have free self-guided online training and… Read More »Zumé Project Preview

April 20 – “Experience” Training

This past week, I attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance district conference and had the privilege of sitting in on a workshop with Jeremy Spainhour who is a great friend and staff member at FAC Lexington.  I was so encouraged by his message and its direct application to simple church that I invited him to come and spend some time with us this month.  I hope you can join us as i think this time together has the potential to leave a huge ripple across your circle of influence! How will coming to this training make a difference you ask? I don’t want to give it all away here, but I will say this:  You are going to learn about one of the most effective tools that you can use to influence everyone, but specifically the millennial… Read More »April 20 – “Experience” Training

Influence

Below is a photo of my good friend Chuck Dickerson and me.  Originally, Chuck and I met back when I worked for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Chuck is the assistant gymnastics coach at the University of Kentucky and is originally from Texas.  I was reminded today of Chuck’s story as we were doing our weekly study together.  We have been looking at the Seven Signs in John and today, when discussing the boldness of the man born blind as he stood in front of the Pharisees a healed man, Chuck recalled the boldness of a young gymnast he met back in 1998… Benita Mueller was fifteen years old.  She had pleaded with her then club gymnastics coach to go to church with her.  Chuck finally gave in and after attending church with her for two… Read More »Influence

January 20 Leadership Gathering

January Simple Church Leadership Gathering. As we begin a new year, I would like to encourage all simple church leaders and those hoping to lead simple church this year to come together for “kick off” of sorts for 2016. We enjoy a dinner together and take time to re-focus our hearts on the vision God has given us, “Multiplying disciples and ultimately simple churches to the ends of the earth.” Please pray about and come ready to share briefly with others how you sense God leading you to live out our vision in 2016. Some questions to consider as you pray thought this: Are there any specific people the Lord is opening up discipleship relationships with? Are there any places the Lord is leading you to go to? Who are the persons of peace in… Read More »January 20 Leadership Gathering

A Video Message From Gavin – The Simple Church Vision

Simple Church At The Soup Kitchen

I had the wonderful privileged of meeting Andrew Baker in Frankfort, KY this week at the Access Soup Kitchen and Men’s Shelter. Andrew is the shelter’s director and it was awesome to see someone with such a passion for serving the community he grew up in. God is at work in at this shelter and He is using Andrew’s leadership and big heart to impact lives in significant ways. Andrew, who is also a Boy Scout leader, has enlisted the help of many local scouts to help work on the facility.  They even constructed the gazebo pictured below. The shelter is also in the middle of a renovation project that will continue throughout the next year as local churches and businesses have increased their support for the people affected by the shelter in recent years.… Read More »Simple Church At The Soup Kitchen

A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

This year’s simple church conference (August 29-30) with Tony and Felicity Dale will kick off Saturday morning with a special  community-wide roundtable discussion/continental breakfast on gender hierarchy in the Church.  This, and other related topics are discussed in Felicity Dale’s new book The Black Swan Effect.  We feel that sorting through this issue is not only critical to those involved with the simple/organic church movement, but also for the entire body of Christ.  We hope that you (both men and women) will consider joining us for this very important discussion.  Find out more about this fascinating topic, Felicity book (sample a chapter), and how women are critical to the multiplication of local churches at this link:  http://www.theblackswaneffect.com/ Cost: $10 –  Saturday AM Roundtable Breakfast ($25 breakfast and entire conference) Time: 9AM-Noon Register: Registration Options 1… Read More »A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

July 15 Leadership Gathering – from Toby Jenkins

On the third Wednesday of every month we get together for a hands-on leadership training “experience.”  This month, several of the leaders and I will host a discussion on the the financial support for Simple Church Alliance instead.  We will return to the usual training next month, but on July 15 we will pause for this important discussion. What does giving look like in simple church and specifically how are the Duersons supported for their leadership in the region?  What exactly does a gift to Simple Church Alliance support?  What is the current financial picture? We want to have an open and honest discussion on these and other related questions with all who believe in the vision of multiplying disciples and simple church communities throughout the region.  We hope that you will make plans to… Read More »July 15 Leadership Gathering – from Toby Jenkins
