Remembering David Griffin

This past week our simple church lost someone special.  David Griffin was our next door neighbor and a faithful pillar in our simple church family.  Loving and being loved by Dave has been one of the biggest blessings of hosting simple church on our street.  Simple/house church creates family and as we grieve the loss of Dave, I realize how true this is. I was honored to facilitate Dave’s Celebration of Life Service this past Saturday.  It was a true joy to hear others tell stories about Dave. His hilarious personality, love for others, and desire to always help people were common themes.  The stories of the jokes and laughs Dave and I shared could fill up pages. Friends, I cannot thank you enough for supporting our family and the ministry of simple church.  A gift to Simple Church Alliance allows me to serve in the role I do and it has enabled me to navigate a very tumultuous time for our family these past two years as we have been in and out of the hospital with Wylie. Thanks to all who have supported us in this special way.  We are eternally grateful. Duerson Family Year End Update! (by Karla Duerson)

  Dear Family and Friends, This year has been an amazing one for us. In February, our friends called us to see if we’d like to buy the house they had been renting to another family for the previous seven years. It is a house that I’d always admired for its living space and placement on our street. On Valentine’s Day, our friend showed Gavin and me through the home. We took a walk around the block afterwards and decided, with excitement, that we would love to make the house our home. We made our best offer and they accepted! The timing of it all was astounding. Simple Church Conference – Retreat 2017

Connect with and learn alongside simple/house/organic church practitioners from around the region at this year’s simple church conference/retreat. This year, we welcome Lee and Stacy Wood from Tampa, FL. Lee and Stacy have seen God birth over a hundred house churches throughout the Tampa area in the last several years as Jesus’s followers have been empowered and encouraged to be the Church in their neighborhoods, workplaces and areas of influence. We encourage you to bring the whole family this year and enjoy a time together of refreshment and encouragement around the campfire, on a hike through the Jessamine Gorge, and in times of worship and story-telling together. During our “gathering” times, school age children will be able to participate in separate leadership activities if parents desire. Dear Friends and Family, Here we are at the end of one year and the cusp of another. As we reflect on 2014, we are moved to express our gratitude to you. We wake up and get to do what we are doing because of the great love and support we receive from you. We continue to serve with the faithful pioneers of Simple Church Alliance. We have been trusting God together with this endeavor for four years. In 2014, we have enjoyed celebrating marriages including Kye and Kendall’s beautiful ceremony on the Wheeler’s farm and Dirk and Charity Joy’s in historic Lexington. Our friends Lindy, Katherine, and Emmalee were baptized. Leaders from here and across the globe gathered for our third conference at Asbury.
