Simple Church Hangout March 2 (Hosted Online by Pendleton Co. Ekklesia)

You are invited to open your laptop or phone and join our good friends in Pendleton Co Kentucky as they host a simple church hangout to discuss “Gatherings, Meetings, and Discipleship” Gatherings, Meetings, and Discipleship – We would like to discuss together the role gatherings and meetings play in the making of disciples. We would love to hear what God is saying to and doing in the lives of everyone involved in or trying to start a simple church. We hope all will be encouraged and challenged to take new steps of faith! – Jeff and Darah Herron Simple Church Hangouts are… Read More »Simple Church Hangout March 2 (Hosted Online by Pendleton Co. Lent: A call to prayer

By Nate Smith Lent is a time for personal reflection, repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming Easter.  A set forty days for self-examination and giving up something in order to prepare our hearts. It is a chance to come with expectation for greater things.  We, as Christians, have this crazy belief that Jesus, who walked in the flesh, actually died and rose again.  Death itself has been conquered.  This is the reason, and the only reason, we have to gather, to worship and break bread.  It is all about Jesus. Friends, it is time to prepare our hearts, not… Read More »Lent: A call to prayer

January 20 Leadership Gathering

January Simple Church Leadership Gathering. As we begin a new year, I would like to encourage all simple church leaders and those hoping to lead simple church this year to come together for “kick off” of sorts for 2016. We enjoy a dinner together and take time to re-focus our hearts on the vision God has given us, “Multiplying disciples and ultimately simple churches to the ends of the earth.” Please pray about and come ready to share briefly with others how you sense God leading you to live out our vision in 2016. Some questions to consider as you… Read More »January 20 Leadership Gathering

A Good Video Explaining Simple Church

There are a lot videos floating around that aid in explaining simple church and house church ideas.  We’ve gathered several here on this website. This particular video pulls from a few of my favorites.  I also like the presenters thought about how simple churches can multiply… be in two simple churches at the same time! I’m interested in your thoughts on this idea. In some ways I think that the first “community” someone would be involved in could be something like a “Life Transformation Group” or a smaller disciple-making relationship of two or three. Nonetheless, I think he does a… Read More »A Good Video Explaining Simple Church

Ever felt this way about church?

I saw this image the other day and chuckled to myself because of frequent conversations I have with people who express similar thoughts about church. “I survived another church service that should have been a podcast,” or “I survived another sermon that should have been me reading the Bible for myself”  is essentially the sentiment. When we make “church” primarily about the one-way delivery of content (messages, music, etc.), many people can leave the experience scratching their heads wondering why they didn’t just watch church on TV or download the podcast.  It’s as if they  look at our Sunday classes… Read More »Ever felt this way about church?

A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

This year’s simple church conference (August 29-30) with Tony and Felicity Dale will kick off Saturday morning with a special  community-wide roundtable discussion/continental breakfast on gender hierarchy in the Church.  This, and other related topics are discussed in Felicity Dale’s new book The Black Swan Effect.  We feel that sorting through this issue is not only critical to those involved with the simple/organic church movement, but also for the entire body of Christ.  We hope that you (both men and women) will consider joining us for this very important discussion.  Find out more about this fascinating topic, Felicity book (sample… Read More »A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

Profile: The Morris Family – Frankfort, KY

Hello my name is Moe and my wife’s name is Angela. We moved to Frankfort, Kentucky in February. We were married on October 19, 2013 and just gave birth to our first child, Gideon James, on June 13, 2015! I became a Christian 11 years ago at the age of 28. My wife grew up in the church and has been a Christian most of her life. For some time, I have felt an urge to be part of a house church, but I have to admit that it was not always out of the right motive. I have been… Read More »Profile: The Morris Family – Frankfort, KY

Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson

On May 15th just a couple weeks ago I had the privilege of hosting the women of simple church in my apartment for a creative worship night. It was such a blessing to have our community of women of all generations, from age 8 and up, gathered in the presence of our Father to seek Him and to express ourselves in creative worship. It was at last year’s Simple Church Conference that my heart was set ablaze with a yearning to have more quality time with the women who make up Simple Church, but God had not shown me how… Read More »Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson

Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore

I recently received and email from a woman that I had contact with several years ago when I was seeking to connect with others in Kentucky exploring simple/house/organic church.  She was trying to host a house church in her rural Kentucky home.  I thought this “update” was very interesting… not the least for the fact that she was no longer “officially hosting a house church anymore.” You know, I am not officially hosting a house church anymore. I really enjoyed that season of my life, but several of our families moved away and it just seemed like the season was… Read More »Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore
