A Good Video Explaining Simple Church

There are a lot videos floating around that aid in explaining simple church and house church ideas.  We’ve gathered several here on this website. This particular video pulls from a few of my favorites.  I also like the presenters thought about how simple churches can multiply… be in two simple churches at the same time! I’m interested in your thoughts on this idea. In some ways I think that the first “community” someone would be involved in could be something like a “Life Transformation Group” or a smaller disciple-making relationship of two or three. Nonetheless, I think he does a good job of explaining visually the hope of discipleship and church multiplication.  What are you thoughts?

Guest Blog: Where One Became Two (And Many More!)

Where One Became Two (And Many More!) Guest Blog by Luke Long, Univerity of Kentucky Student   I had the privilege of joining many wonderful people from around the region and nation at the Simple Church Conference in Lexington, KY a few weekends ago. The conference was full of bold insight and wisdom that spoke deeply into my life concerning both the realms of women in leadership, and the organic simple church movement that is exploding across this nation. The Spirit was teaching, transforming and molding my heart, and it showed! Laughter and tears were abundant as many stories of our King were shared with everyone. I walked away from a powerful weekend with renewed vision and passion. Though there were many triumphs that weekend, I can focus on two of great importance: 1) Two… Read More »Guest Blog: Where One Became Two (And Many More!)

Ever felt this way about church?

I saw this image the other day and chuckled to myself because of frequent conversations I have with people who express similar thoughts about church. “I survived another church service that should have been a podcast,” or “I survived another sermon that should have been me reading the Bible for myself”  is essentially the sentiment. When we make “church” primarily about the one-way delivery of content (messages, music, etc.), many people can leave the experience scratching their heads wondering why they didn’t just watch church on TV or download the podcast.  It’s as if they  look at our Sunday classes and think, “Hey, I’ll take this class online” (that is if they don’t just drop the class altogether). But is watching church, listening to the podcast, reading a blog post, etc. the same experience?  It… Read More »Ever felt this way about church?

A Video Message From Gavin – The Simple Church Vision

Below Gavin Duerson shares the vision of the Simple Church Alliance and challenges simple church leaders to consider how specifically God is asking them to live out the Great Commission.  We would love to hear from you about how you are led to answer the questions Gavin asks in the video!  Please email us at simplechurchalliance@gmail.com

Simple Church At The Soup Kitchen

I had the wonderful privileged of meeting Andrew Baker in Frankfort, KY this week at the Access Soup Kitchen and Men’s Shelter. Andrew is the shelter’s director and it was awesome to see someone with such a passion for serving the community he grew up in. God is at work in at this shelter and He is using Andrew’s leadership and big heart to impact lives in significant ways. Andrew, who is also a Boy Scout leader, has enlisted the help of many local scouts to help work on the facility.  They even constructed the gazebo pictured below. The shelter is also in the middle of a renovation project that will continue throughout the next year as local churches and businesses have increased their support for the people affected by the shelter in recent years.… Read More »Simple Church At The Soup Kitchen

A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

This year’s simple church conference (August 29-30) with Tony and Felicity Dale will kick off Saturday morning with a special  community-wide roundtable discussion/continental breakfast on gender hierarchy in the Church.  This, and other related topics are discussed in Felicity Dale’s new book The Black Swan Effect.  We feel that sorting through this issue is not only critical to those involved with the simple/organic church movement, but also for the entire body of Christ.  We hope that you (both men and women) will consider joining us for this very important discussion.  Find out more about this fascinating topic, Felicity book (sample a chapter), and how women are critical to the multiplication of local churches at this link:  http://www.theblackswaneffect.com/ Cost: $10 –  Saturday AM Roundtable Breakfast ($25 breakfast and entire conference) Time: 9AM-Noon Register: Registration Options 1… Read More »A Round Table Discussion – Aug 29

July 15 Leadership Gathering – from Toby Jenkins

On the third Wednesday of every month we get together for a hands-on leadership training “experience.”  This month, several of the leaders and I will host a discussion on the the financial support for Simple Church Alliance instead.  We will return to the usual training next month, but on July 15 we will pause for this important discussion. What does giving look like in simple church and specifically how are the Duersons supported for their leadership in the region?  What exactly does a gift to Simple Church Alliance support?  What is the current financial picture? We want to have an open and honest discussion on these and other related questions with all who believe in the vision of multiplying disciples and simple church communities throughout the region.  We hope that you will make plans to… Read More »July 15 Leadership Gathering – from Toby Jenkins

Profile: The Morris Family – Frankfort, KY

Hello my name is Moe and my wife’s name is Angela. We moved to Frankfort, Kentucky in February. We were married on October 19, 2013 and just gave birth to our first child, Gideon James, on June 13, 2015! I became a Christian 11 years ago at the age of 28. My wife grew up in the church and has been a Christian most of her life. For some time, I have felt an urge to be part of a house church, but I have to admit that it was not always out of the right motive. I have been tired of the traditional church for some time, but that quickly turned into a negative and at times very bitter opinion of the church. I would be what most would call a disgruntled church member.… Read More »Profile: The Morris Family – Frankfort, KY

Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson

On May 15th just a couple weeks ago I had the privilege of hosting the women of simple church in my apartment for a creative worship night. It was such a blessing to have our community of women of all generations, from age 8 and up, gathered in the presence of our Father to seek Him and to express ourselves in creative worship. It was at last year’s Simple Church Conference that my heart was set ablaze with a yearning to have more quality time with the women who make up Simple Church, but God had not shown me how this could happen yet. It wasn’t until this month that God brought to fruition that desire in my heart through this time of creative worship where all of us could gather together and use the… Read More »Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson
