Zumé Project Overview

The ZumĂ© Project Small Tools for BIG IMPACT in the Kingdom Below is the ZumĂ© Project overview.  I would ask that you pray about your involvement in this project.  Most of all, please pray that the Holy Spirit leads it!  Essentially, it is the same project of Simple Church Alliance as from the beginning we have been led to “multiply disciples and simple churches, starting in Central Kentucky and extending to the ends of the earth.”  The best way to think of ZumĂ© is a tool that I believe God is going to use to help achieve this vision He has given us. I will be expanding on this outline in the weeks to come, but for now here is the overview…   Download this overview in a pdf file. (feel free to share) Download the “Kentucky” overview… Read More »ZumĂ© Project Overview

From Bluegrass To The Middle East

From the Bluegrass to the Middle East One of the most fascinating aspects of “simple” church is the desire to build up disciples that are full of passion for God’s glory. Simple church provides a community and space where all believers are equipped with the tools necessary to question and understand the Bible, seek truth by the Spirit and share with others who they know Jesus to be. Before too long, the simple church multiplies out of itself, and where there was one church before, now there are three or four that takes the former’s place! My experience with a simple church with University classmates has matched up with this line of thinking. Over the last three years, we have grown so much and God has prepared us for a lifestyle of Christ wherever we… Read More »From Bluegrass To The Middle East

Zumé Project Preview

UPDATE: Join Gavin and Forrest Head, with BigLife@Home for a Google Hangout on Wednesday June 1st at 8PM to learn more about the ZumĂ© Project and pray for our nation.  Details HERE.  Over the last several months people from around the country have been coming together from various denominations and even types of churches to pray for and consider the common purpose of multiplying disciples, and yes, simple churches across the nation under the banner of the ZumĂ© Project.  The ZumĂ© Project (see video below) is an approach to fulfilling the Great Commission in North America by helping to establish disciple making groups or simple churches in every census tract (geographic block of 10,000 people) in the country.  The ZumĂ© Project, when launched in August, will offer an online tool that will allow anyone to have free self-guided online training and… Read More »ZumĂ© Project Preview

April 20 – “Experience” Training

This past week, I attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance district conference and had the privilege of sitting in on a workshop with Jeremy Spainhour who is a great friend and staff member at FAC Lexington.  I was so encouraged by his message and its direct application to simple church that I invited him to come and spend some time with us this month.  I hope you can join us as i think this time together has the potential to leave a huge ripple across your circle of influence! How will coming to this training make a difference you ask? I don’t want to give it all away here, but I will say this:  You are going to learn about one of the most effective tools that you can use to influence everyone, but specifically the millennial… Read More »April 20 – “Experience” Training

Google Hangout Tonight! 8PM “Teaching”

Join Gavin and friends from Indianapolis as they discuss and share various ideas and approaches to “teaching in simple church.”  If you would like to connect with others a part of simple or house churches this is a great opportunity to do so!   Everyone involved in simple/organic/house churches are invited to join as this can be a great way to “build up” the Body of Christ…especially to build up our friends meeting in Indianapolis! You can visit Indy Ekklesia at their website (http://indyekklesia.com) where you can actually get a really good feel for what teaching looks like in their community.  Each week they record and post  the lesson/discussion from their gathering.  They are excited to learn more about how other simple churches approach this important aspect of the Church. What does “teaching” look like in your simple church?   Google… Read More »Google Hangout Tonight! 8PM “Teaching”

Resurrection Day Communion (By Jeff Herron)

March 27, 2016 — Resurrection Day, by Jeff Herron Unexpectedly volunteering to serve communion with Darah at the Resurrection Day gathering of the Simple Church Alliance network. Can’t remember acting in this capacity before. Starting to think right away about what words I might say as people come up to receive the elements. There’s that passage in Corinthians somewhere about not being unworthy, but I can’t remember it well enough. Maybe the more traditional “the body of Christ, broken for your sins…”, but I can’t really recall exactly how that one goes either, and I’m not much for formulaic incantations anyway. Realize there’s a bit of pride in the mix, wanting to seem competent and experienced at something I don’t really have any experience with. Figure I’ll just say or not say as the Lord… Read More »Resurrection Day Communion (By Jeff Herron)

A Simple Church Gathering Format

If there is one thing I am not a fan of, it is trying to come up with a formula for “church.”  Simple Church at its core is about following Jesus and allowing him to lead us as individuals and as a local church.  There is great opportunity to experience Christ this way in the context of simple church.  When you are simple in form and not tied to meeting times and agendas, you can experience a lot of freedom in what you do when you get together for “church.” That being said, I think that it could be a mistake for leaders to not have a loosely held plan to help those in your simple church community focus on Christ and do the things that we see the church doing in the New Testament.… Read More »A Simple Church Gathering Format
