Hey folks… Just wanted to give a short personal update here on the simple church website about our baby on the way, Margaret Wylie Duerson. Many of you know that Karla is pregnant with a little girl. After our 20 week ultrasound, our midwife referred us to a high-risk pregnancy doctor. We went to this appointment on Tuesday. The doctor found that Wylie “likely” has Down syndrome. There were a few indicators that led to this assessment: 1)There are two choroid plexus cysts on her brain (these are harmless, but often present in babies with a genetic disorder), and 2) her limbs measured slightly shorter than usual. The third and most concerning issue is that she has a major heart defect. The perinatologist believed it to be an AV canal. Around 40% of DS babies have… Read More »An update on our baby girl…
Dear Family and Friends, This year has been an amazing one for us. In February, our friends called us to see if we’d like to buy the house they had been renting to another family for the previous seven years. It is a house that I’d always admired for its living space and placement on our street. On Valentine’s Day, our friend showed Gavin and me through the home. We took a walk around the block afterwards and decided, with excitement, that we would love to make the house our home. We made our best offer and they accepted! The timing of it all was astounding. Join Lylak and Roser at The Heartwood in Lexington, KY for a special Christmas Celebration hosted by the Simple Church Alliance.
Through this Transition series, I have been encouraged and reminded of where I want my focus to be: living in God’s love. Any believer will be encouraged and challenged by this series–especially those of you who are seeking to walk with Christ outside the traditional structures we have called “church.”
A powerful story and picture of how Christian hospitality changed Rosaria Butterfield’s life.
Check out this video blog from Joseph Solomon about discipleship and house church.
Right now, a group a small group of guys from Lexington’s Skate Church and Nicholasville’s Skate Church are in Barcelona Spain, the unofficial skateboarding capital of the world! Read below from Josh Roberts about the trip’s goals and purpose…
“God loves You!” is foundational truth of the Christian faith. It is repeated so frequently among the faithful that it’s almost ingrained in our minds. “Jesus love me this I know, for the Bible tells me so,” is perhaps the first song that many Christians sing to their children. However, how do we really know that God loves us? If someone came to you and said, “Forget the Bible verses. Tell me why you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God loves you.” How would you answer? This was the question I posed at the Simple Church Conference this past weekend in Stanford, KY.
“…there is no more place for me to work in these regions…” -Paul the Apostle (Romans 15:23, NIV) We at Green Mountain Simple Church are immensely excited to partner with No Place Left, “an international movement of movements aimed at getting to no place left where Christ is not made known in our generation.” On August 20-21, 2018, GMSC had the opportunity to partner with Calvary Bible Church in Rutland to host No Place Left trainers Justin White from Raleigh, North Carolina and Jon Slenker from Norfolk, Virginia. Our No Place Left training team in Fellowship Hall at Calvary Bible Church. Left to right, Nick Pope, Jacob Stafford, Jon Slenker, Justin Bagley, Justin White and Matt Rosenberg. We spent Friday night with the trainers and members of several area churches, training in simple tools designed to help believers understand their… Read More »No Place Left Vermont – by Justin Bagley
