6 Benefits To Gathering On Sunday Mornings

Our simple church has settled into meeting on Sunday mornings and I’ve grown to enjoy it.  I have thought of six reasons I would encourage other simple churches to gather on Sunday mornings as well. Certainly there is not hard rule about when folks should meet and most every group will settle on times and locations for a host of reasons. As you think about the best time for your simple church to gather, consider the following… 1.  Convenience – The hardest thing about getting folks together regularly is finding a common time that everyone is available.  In general, it seems that the most available time on folks’ calendars is Sunday morning.  Chances are that if you walked up to anyone on the street and asked them what they were doing on Sunday morning they… Read More »6 Benefits To Gathering On Sunday Mornings

An update on our baby girl…

Hey folks… Just wanted to give a short personal update here on the simple church website about our baby on the way, Margaret Wylie Duerson. Many of you know that Karla is pregnant with a little girl.  After our 20 week ultrasound, our midwife referred us to a high-risk pregnancy doctor.  We went to this appointment on Tuesday.  The doctor found that Wylie “likely” has Down syndrome.  There were a few indicators that led to this assessment: 1)There are two choroid plexus cysts on her brain (these are harmless, but often present in babies with a genetic disorder), and 2) her limbs measured slightly shorter than usual.  The third and most concerning issue is that she has a major heart defect.  The perinatologist believed it to be an AV canal. Around 40% of DS babies have… Read More »An update on our baby girl…

Duerson Family Year End Update! (by Karla Duerson)

Dear Family and Friends, This year has been an amazing one for us. In February, our friends called us to see if we’d like to buy the house they had been renting to another family for the previous seven years. It is a house that I’d always admired for its living space and placement on our street. On Valentine’s Day, our friend showed Gavin and me through the home. We took a walk around the block afterwards and decided, with excitement, that we would love to make the house our home. We made our best offer and they accepted! The timing of it all was astounding. We were able to sell our home quickly and began a few updates in the new home before having to move out of ours in July. The help… Read More »Duerson Family Year End Update! (by Karla Duerson)

Transitions (Audio Teaching)

Through this Transition series, I have been encouraged and reminded of where I want my focus to be: living in God’s love.   Any believer will be encouraged and challenged by this series–especially those of you who are seeking to walk with Christ outside the traditional structures we have called “church.”
