This is the video we watched during our Sunday morning network gathering. Neil raises many of the issues we have addressed over the last 6 months in a clear and concise manor. I would encourage every simple church to take time to watch and discuss the points addressed in this video. I have typed out the 10 steps for going from a “movement to a monument” that are identified in the video as they were a little hard to read on the slides. They are as follows: 1. From Biblical Priorities to Non-Biblical Priorities – valuing methods and traditions sacred… Read More »Movement to Monument

Yesterday in our network gathering we watched the video below and had a lively discussion about all that is addressed. If you are involved with us or interested in simple church (or leadership in general), then I would highly recommend that you watch this video. I’m very grateful to the people at House2House for putting this together as it does an excellent job explaining what leadership in “simple church” is all about. Indeed, your leadership is truly a gift to the body of Christ!
This past weekend I finally sat down to watch a documentary I have been eying ever since it arrived in theaters in 2008. It Might Get Loud is a documentary on the electric guitar and three legendary guitarists: The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). In the clip I’ve p0sted below, Jack White explains how the song, “Grinnin’ in Your Face” by Son House, affected him and the direction of his musical career. Later in the film, he recounts that when forming The White Stripes, a band that featured only drums and a guitar… Read More »Trying To Play “Son House”
A short great explanation of what missional community is all about. As we are in the beginning stages of this new work, I have a growing sense that a missional mindset (see core values blog post) must be present from the beginning. I continue to pray that each person individually and each simple church collectively would have a “focus on the harvest.” [vimeo http://vimeo.com/18406971]
This would be a great place to start if you have come to this blog in an attempt to figure out what in the world is going on at First Alliance with regards to the formation of a “simple church network.”
Below is the video we watched in the “No More Spectators” class today at First Alliance. The video is of Mark Cahill witnessing/sharing the Gospel at the Pride festival in Atlanta, GA. Enjoy this facinating dialogue and feel free to post your thoughts below! Also, you can find out more about Mark Cahill here: http://markcahill.org/ [youtube=http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=wktyFckX-cQ]
Today in the “No More Spectators” class at First Alliance Church, we had a great discussion around the question, “What is the Gospel?” While open to everyone, this class has been of special importance to those of us going on this “simple church” journey together. The thing I love most about “simple church” is that the emphasis ends up not being on “church” at all–but on all believers becoming active participants in the Great Commission (as apposed to “spectators”). In our journey from spectator to disciplemaker, perhaps no issue is more crucial than understanding the Gospel. So what is the… Read More »What is the Gospel?
Below is the link to download/listen the message I shared at First Alliance yesterday entitled Introducing…Jesus Christ! A friend of mine told me this morning that it was “the best 20 point sermon he had ever heard.” I’m not sure exactly what he meant by that… I’ve also linked the video that I showed at the beginning of my message. The video is shows Steve Harvey introducing Jesus. Listen To “Introducing… Jesus Christ!” Here Steve Harvey Introducing Jesus Christ… [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvCd_ANIKys]
“Today” is a movie about the importance of children in God’s global plans. It was released by the Global Children’s Forum at the Lausanne World Congress in Oct 2010.
Church Plant Update. Hello! Well we have finished the class “A Vision for Being the Church.” It has been great to hear how God has worked and is continuing to work in your life as you consider your involvement in this new work! So what is next? 1. No More Spectators. Next week I will begin leading a class entitled “No More Spectators.” While not specifically for those interested in the new church, it will be important to the new work because we will address how we all can become active participants in the Great Commission—a key element to “simple… Read More »Church Plant Update!
