June 17 – Simple Church “Experience”

Experience Giving: Time, Talents, and Treasures When: Wednesday June 17, 6-8PM. Where: Simple Church Office @ First Southern National Bank Lexington What: As we continue our monthly discipleship/simple church “experience” time, this month we want to experience Giving. We will enjoy pizza together and then we want to invite you share briefly about a God-activity to which you are presently giving your time, talents, or treasures. Perhaps there is something going on locally that you are excited to see God do? Internationally? What God-activity are you giving your time, talent, or treasure to that you long for others in the Body to know about? In addition, we want you to share how those of us there can join you in this endeavor on the spot! Please feel free to share giving envelopes, etc. Is there… Read More »June 17 – Simple Church “Experience”

Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson

On May 15th just a couple weeks ago I had the privilege of hosting the women of simple church in my apartment for a creative worship night. It was such a blessing to have our community of women of all generations, from age 8 and up, gathered in the presence of our Father to seek Him and to express ourselves in creative worship. It was at last year’s Simple Church Conference that my heart was set ablaze with a yearning to have more quality time with the women who make up Simple Church, but God had not shown me how this could happen yet. It wasn’t until this month that God brought to fruition that desire in my heart through this time of creative worship where all of us could gather together and use the… Read More »Guest Blog by Kaity Wilson

Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore

I recently received and email from a woman that I had contact with several years ago when I was seeking to connect with others in Kentucky exploring simple/house/organic church.  She was trying to host a house church in her rural Kentucky home.  I thought this “update” was very interesting… not the least for the fact that she was no longer “officially hosting a house church anymore.” You know, I am not officially hosting a house church anymore. I really enjoyed that season of my life, but several of our families moved away and it just seemed like the season was over. . I now host a weekly potluck with a group of friends who are for the most part not Christians. It is an interesting assortment of people—a couple who have recently left the Jehovah’s… Read More »Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore

On Board (Lexington Skate Church Documentary)

Recently, several students at Asbury University visited our Skate Church family to film a documentary entitled “On Board,” for their final class project and I wanted to share it with you. Some of you know how instructive “skate church” has been to me and my family in helping us see clearly the larger vision of “simple church.”  We long to help everyone simply their church life such that they are able to bring Jesus and the experience of following Him together with others outside the building and into the places where people live, work, and play.   I thought this video gives a good picture of what simple church is about and what we have been working to help others experience in their neighborhoods, workplaces, local café’s, or wherever there “skate park” exists. Our family is… Read More »On Board (Lexington Skate Church Documentary)

Simple Church Experience – Prayer Walking (May 20)

Each month, we are hosting an opportunity for you to join others interested in making disciples for an experiential training experience.  At the heart of simple church is idea that each believer can engage in the Great Commission.  Rather than coming to gather information only, we hope to put into practice the activities that disciple makers do… learning by doing! Our May “Experience” will take place on Wednesday, May 20th at the Berry Hill Park, In Lexington, KY.  Pizza will be provided and children are welcome to come as well.  We will have pizza together, briefly explain prayer walking, then break up to walk and pray for God’s blessing at the new skatepark (opening in June).  Specifically, we will pray for the formation of a new skate church community at this park and for people… Read More »Simple Church Experience – Prayer Walking (May 20)

Encouragements (5.7.15)

Just a few encouragements I want to pass along… –Brice Burton (originally from Somerset and now living Tacoma, Washington) joined our 1st Wednesday of the Month Google Hangout and shared of how he and his wife Becca have been really invested in a pub in their neighborhood. They now have a community of 20 or so “not-yet believers” that they meet with every Monday. They are starting to see many of those folks take interest in their home gathering and Life Transformation Groups. –I am excited for a young family in Elizabethown, Ky that is patiently and faithfully taking steps to see a simple church community birthed.  As we have talked weekly over the past couple of months, it is clear to me that God is starting to do some exciting things in and through… Read More »Encouragements (5.7.15)

The Telephone Game and the Reliability of the Gospels

Are we crazy for believing the stories in the Bible? Are we to be pitied more than all men (as the Bible itself suggests we are if the stories are not true)?  Is it more reasonable to believe that, like in the telephone game, the story we have down on paper is nothing like what really happened in the beginning? In a recent conversation with a friend about the reliability of the Bible, the telephone game argument came up.  I really appreciated the honesty of my friend in sharing his doubts.  The truth is that he simply was articulating a doubt that I think haunts many believers.  In the telephone game a person whispers a message to a friend, it’s passed around the circle, and then the last person at the end shares the message… Read More »The Telephone Game and the Reliability of the Gospels

The Spirit Is Moving! An Update On Our Journey! (Guest Blog)

To our brothers and sisters in Lexington (and wherever else these words might travel!), may our Master Jesus’ grace and peace be yours in ever increasing measure! We have found Him to be so good, providing for us everything we need at just the right time. We hope you will find encouragement in this brief update. As many of you know, we took Gavin’s challenge in early 2014 very seriously, and we prayed for the Lord to show us specific things He wanted us to do in that year for His Kingdom. He answered us very clearly! In response to His clear leading, we engaged with the local churches in our community in an attempt to partner with them in spreading the Kingdom here in Pendleton county, KY. There are 49 churches here that proclaim… Read More »The Spirit Is Moving! An Update On Our Journey! (Guest Blog)
