Joshua Gibbs, in his article Can We Make Classicism Into A Fan Club Instead Of A Movement? at the Circe Institute has an interesting critique of whole notion of “starting movements.” While he directs his message toward an audience hoping to see a classical education movement, I think he raises some interesting questions for those of us who would say that we are apart of (or hoping to be apart of) a simple/organic church movement in North America. He writes… Movements are necessary, I suppose. When I say movement, I mean a group of people who have an agenda they want to accomplish— changing the hearts and minds and pocketbooks and laws of society at large. A movement has a platform of broad goals tailored to appeal to as many people as possible while still… Read More »Simple Church Fan Clubs?

Simple Church Training – Now on the THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH. UPDATE: See HERE FOR DETAILS FOR JUNE 19! Each month we gather together for an informal “training” of sorts. We find that providing an opportunity for those seeking to lead simple churches (or just looking for the encouragement to start) is helpful in encouraging one another and helping rotationally connect various simple churches. There are now a couple of different simple church communities that primarily are gathering on Wednesday nights so we thought we would give thursday nights a shot so that some of those folks can benefit from the training opportunities. Starting in June, we will shift our day to the third thursday of the month. Same start time and place – 6-8pm at 3060 Harrodsburg Road. So the next several training… Read More »New Day of Month For Simple Church Trainings
In our “Introduction” section we have included a few of our favorite videos that explain what simple church is, how it functions, and why we feel it’s important to encourage in the region. I recently added the video below to the list. Perhaps it can help you to better understand what simple church is all about and serve as a tool for you when sharing the idea with friends and family?
Salmon Khan has stumbled upon ideas about learning that many in simple church have discovered as well. As classrooms get “flipped” by tools such as the Khan Academy, imagine the possibilities of “flipping” church as well!
What is simple church? What do simple church meetings look like? How are children involved? Is it fun? What are the challenges? How is simple church different from “small groups” at other churches? Is simple church really simple? What would it look like for me to be involved in a simple church? How do you start a new simple church? What’s the catch? Are we really allowed to do this? For several years now, a growing number of people have found life with Jesus outside the walls of the traditional church. As we have grown together, we have discovered some answers to the questions above, yet the list of questions seems to continue to grow! We would love to invite you into a conversation about simple church, what we believe God is doing globally and… Read More »An Introduction To Simple Church – May 7
