Images from the Prayer Room

This past weekend we had a the great experience of seeing people from simple churches across the region (really the entire southeast!) come together for 48 hours of continual prayer.  Participants that made it to the designated “prayer room” were encouraged to experience communication with God in a variety of ways.  Prayer through song,  art, journaling, silence, Communion, and utilizing a map of the city to pray for different areas were some of the ways that participants could pray.   While it is certainly not possible to share all the requests and insights reflected in the room and from those that prayed from home, below are several quotes from the prayer wall and a slide show of several images that people drew in response to the Holy Spirit.  Please feel free to share any insights that… Read More »Images from the Prayer Room

48 Hours of Prayer – Good Friday to Easter

Simple Church friends and family, In response to some of the discussion about prayer over Facebook and during some simple church gatherings, Nate Smith (Third Street Simple Church) and I have put together a plan to coordinate 48 hours of continual prayer leading up to our Easter Celebration on April 20th. Beginning on Good Friday, April 18 at 4pm we are seeking to sign up individuals and groups to take one hour slots.  The 48 hours will end at 4pm Sunday,  just shy of the 5pm start time of our Easter Celebration.  Simply put, we want to devote this weekend to spending time worshiping and communicating with the risen Savior!  He is alive and we believe He wants to meet with us and speak with us as an extended family!  Will you consider taking an… Read More »48 Hours of Prayer – Good Friday to Easter

To Those Who Have “Unplugged”

I just wanted to write a post to those of you who are a part of simple church—specifically those of you who I have the privilege of knowing and working with locally. Most days I spend time visiting with people interested in “simple church” and all that it entails.  While many people see that simple church is a natural and Biblical way for making disciples and seeing the Kingdom grow, yet as I am sure some of you know, it is very difficult to “unplug” from the traditional church and the programs and services it offers. So, I just wanted to take a break to say “thank you” for your willingness to go down this road together.  I know you are exploring simple church out of obedience to Jesus—not for me or anyone else for… Read More »To Those Who Have “Unplugged”

Why Start Simple Churches? (Video Part 3)

This is part three of Erik’s video series on simple church.  Here he addresses the question, “Why start Simple Churches?”  I appreciate the simplicity in which Erik explains “church” as a natural result of disciples making disciples–which God desire to do through every follower of his.  It is simple and natural to see groups of disciples coming together to follow Jesus in community with each other.

What Do We Do At A Simple Church Gathering (Video Part 2)

In this video Erik addresses the question of how a simple church can be formed and what the church does at a simple church gathering.   He has some very practical ideas and as you can see it is simple.  I love his last point about praying that God would show you pockets of people who are “culturally averse to the American way of doing church” and being available to see a seed church formed.

8 Ways To Start A Simple Church

There is no formula for how to start a simple church.  The Holy Spirit must be the Initiator and Leader if a real church community is to be birthed.  Even still, I have seen several ways God can use you to give birth to a new simple church family! 1. LTG – As you and a friend or two begin a Life Transformation Group (LTG) and you see that LTG multiply into two LTGs, a simple church can be formed. It’s logical and natural that you say, “why don’t we all share a meal together?” If married, the husband’s and wife’s LTGs can come together weekly for simple church! There are many advantages to this because the multiplication of disciples is the building block of the new simple church! 2. Just Start Gathering – Sometimes… Read More »8 Ways To Start A Simple Church
