Baptisms and Such

God has been moving! The past six weeks have been some of the fullest, most rewarding, and most draining times of our lives and certainly of our ministry. Since the middle of September we have seen eight young people profess faith in Jesus as Savior and step into the waters of baptism. To put this in perspective, in the previous year we had baptized four people, all of which were amazing stories of redemption. During the past few weeks though, God has really been doing some cool stuff…..early church in the book of Acts type of stuff! Our gatherings have been lasting for hours because no one wants to leave. Teenagers who are rough and ragged are stopping people on the street to pray for them and tell them about what Jesus is doing in… Read More »Baptisms and Such

Simple Church Conference 16 Wrap Up

I want to take a second and thank everyone who came together this last weekend for the simple church conference.  As I shared at the conference, I had experienced a lot of resistance about the entire during the whole process of planning our time together–so much so that I knew the day had to happen!  I trust that the our time will together will continue to impact our faith journeys and our simple churches that we are connected too. For those that could not make it, allow me to offer a brief summary of our weekend: On Saturday morning, we saw folks from Lexington, Nicholasville, Wilmore, Louisville, Beijing China, and Washington DC come together to consider their call to live out the Great Commission.  Dana and Diego kicked us off with a wonderful time of worship… Read More »Simple Church Conference 16 Wrap Up

Podcast: What Is A Simple Church?

In episode 2 of the all new Keep it Simple Podcast, we address the question “What is a simple church?” In order to answer this question, we begin by taking a look at what is absolutely necessary for a local church to exist.  Our search leads us to answer other questions like, “What are non-negotiable and what is optional when it come to ‘church?’” “What things are hindering the church from being all that God wants it to be?” In this podcast we will also look at two aspects of modern church that usually are considered essential– Professionals and Programs.  We re-examine their necessity for a vibrant and multiplying church to exist. A Savior

A Savior By Emma Duerson A blinding star beaming with light Was seen across the land Holier than the star was bright Was the Savior born that night The little King was not to lay in a castle crib But upon the hay The darkness beheld the birth of Jesus Christ our King —- Emma is our ten year old daughter (pictured in the bottom right corner).  She has developed a great interest in poetry this year.  It is a privilege and joy for our family to be on this journey with you!  Merry Christmas!

Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore

I recently received and email from a woman that I had contact with several years ago when I was seeking to connect with others in Kentucky exploring simple/house/organic church.  She was trying to host a house church in her rural Kentucky home.  I thought this “update” was very interesting… not the least for the fact that she was no longer “officially hosting a house church anymore.” You know, I am not officially hosting a house church anymore. I really enjoyed that season of my life, but several of our families moved away and it just seemed like the season was over. . I now host a weekly potluck with a group of friends who are for the most part not Christians. It is an interesting assortment of people—a couple who have recently left the Jehovah’s… Read More »Not Officially Hosting House Church Anymore
